A variety of needs for individual student support has grown over the years, regardless if the support is related to behaviour or learning. James Cook High School offers the following student services:
Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo)
SENCo builds the capacity of class and subject teachers to meet the needs of students by assigning Teacher Aides (TAs) to students who need support in learning or behaviour. These roles have grown over the years as the population of students with special needs becomes more substantial each year. SENCo liaises with parents, school leadership and outside expertise when needed to both identify and support children with special educational, behaviour, health and social needs.
SENCo supports junior students in literacy development. See volunteering to find out how you can contribute.
Health & Well-being
Health & Well-being supports the young people of the school physically, mentally, and emotionally so that they can be in class learning. Everyone in the department plays a key role and together we work to ensure that each student’s needs are met in a supportive and caring way.
